Safe Drain Q & A

Safe Drain® Inc. provides storm drain protection and support services to cities, government facilities and companies that, by law are required to prevent chemicals, sediments and other potentially hazardous materials from polluting storm drains. Safe Drain Inc. continues to research and develop high quality environmental solutions that meet or exceed current government regulations.

The Safe Drain® is a patented product (Patent Numbers: 5,383,745; 5,582,720; 5,728,294) and is protected by other patents and patents pending.

Should the Safe Drain® be kept open or closed?

One rule of thumb, if it's raining make sure that the Safe Drain™ is open. Different environments and different applications may vary in the way the Safe Drain® is utilized. Many customers keep their Safe Drain® normally closed, opening it only for rain events. Others will keep their Safe Drains™ normally open if they are located in areas that the customer considers to be "low risk." Should there be a transfer operation of a hazardous material taking place near a Safe Drain then the valve is always kept closed until that operation has been completed. The quick open and close feature of the Safe Drain® is convenient in either scenario.
